mercy x chaos began in the middle of a very dark season. The first verse and chorus came out of that place, heavy but honest. Later, after the storm had passed, the song found new life with the help of Erika Fowler and Elessar Thiessen. Together, we carried it forward into something more whole.

Dan Russell’s pedal steel added a gentle, aching beauty that seemed to hold the song’s sorrow and hope in the same breath. In the studio, Eles guided the process with keys, bass, percussion, and wisdom—shaping the song with care and helping it become what it needed to be.

Looking back, mercy x chaos doesn’t feel like something we created as much as something we were entrusted with. It feels like a gift—and our hope is that it can be one for you too.

Lyrics

There’s a mercy in knowing
I’m not in control and
There’s a chaos in letting it all go
There is strife in resentment
But peace in contentment
In doing my best and letting the dice roll

Oh lately I’ve been waring
Trying to fight the boredom
Of growing up and changing my goals
So I’ll make my decisions
Attempting precision
Letting mercy in chaos take control

There’s a lonesome feeling
When my mind starts reeling
And life keeps on speeding by
There's a pain in learning
But the world keeps on turning
And I realize there’s nothing but time

Oh, lately I’ve been changing
As life keeps rearranging
And I try to find my place in it all
So I’ll make my decisions
In my newfound religion
Of letting mercy in chaos take control

I gave up my warring
I’m not afraid of boredom
Don’t find myself looking for loopholes

Now I trust my decisions
I’m proud of my clear vision
Let mercy in chaos take control

I trust my decisions
I’m proud of my clear vision
Let mercy in chaos take control
